Description
This is a well-made set of 12 brass-plated 7/8" candle cup inserts/grommets. Typically used to finish lathed turned wooden candlesticks, these have come to be a standard sound hole trim treatment in cigar box guitars. They give a finished look to any appropriately sized hole in various projects, and we have heard of them being used in foam and clay where the insert was pushed in and the center scooped out to make eyeballs, connection points, or pretty much anything you can think of. The outer diameter of the insert is 1-3/16 inches, and the inner diameter is 7/8 of an inch. These are very snug and fit well in a 7/8-inch hole, but with a little glue to help hold it in place, should work in a hole size up to an inch or so. Testing on a thicker composite cigar box as well as a thinner full wood cigar box both did well with a 7/8-inch hole. Very hard woods or thicker material may require a 29/32 of an inch hole. When things seem tight, a little sanding of the hole is often enough to create the necessary space. The portion of the insert that gets pushed in to the hole has three evenly spaced protrusions that help hold it in the hole and/or provide a surface for glue to grab onto when gluing in place.
